Light and the Glory God’s Plan for America Series

We are delighted to see the God’s Plan for America series back in a new edition. It carefully shows God’s hand in the history of the United States from the time of Columbus to the period before the Civil War.

These books are excellent for an American History course from Columbus up to the Civil War.

Use the original versions for your secondary students and the “young readers” versions for your elementary students.

The first in the series is The Light and the Glory which is about God’s plan for America. My favorite is From Sea to Shining Sea because it shows how God can change a nation which has turned away from Him. Sounding Forth the Trumpet covers United States history prior to the Civil War. Peter Marshall and David Manuel researched original documents to write this series.

When I read the Light and the Glory when it was first published, I have to admit that this avid reader had to read one chapter at a sitting and allow my brain time to process the information. I wasn’t familiar with God’s hand in history. Even though I knew in my heart that God was always there in American history, reading historical evidence was an eye-opener for me. I believe that this series has helped American Christians to remember what God has done for us.

In From Sea to Shining Sea you’ll “learn how America’s future was threatened by greed, pride, and self-righteousness. You’ll also see how, in the midst of turmoil, God raised up leaders to shape our unique country and character.”

God’s plan for America unfolded as an infant nation plunged westward after the 1783 Treaty of Paris. This sequel to the Light and the Glory tells the story of expansion across a continent through 1837.
